Public displays of affection reveal a lot about a relationship; how comfortable you are with your partner (and they, with you). My feature with East Coast Radio @ecr9495 decodes the meanings behind physical touch. Stacey and JSbu write:

“There is no inbetween when it comes to public displays of affection, otherwise known as PDA. You are either into it or you are absolutely not into it, very seldom will someone be indifferent to it.

Do you love snuggling up no matter where you are and who might be watching? Or does the mere thought of holding hands in public give you a burst of anxiety?

Being affectionate with someone you love is a completely natural thing to want to do, but sometimes you and your partner may not be on the same page with regard to public displays of affection.

Perhaps you are not the holding hands while you walk in the mall type or exchanging kisses as you enjoy your meal with your partner at a restaurant type?

Most people are super self-conscious and fear being thought of as those people everyone looks at and thinks, ‘Can they just get a room already!’.

New York relationship expert Susan Winter says PDA reveals a lot about a relationship, including how comfortable you are with the person that you are in a relationship with.

There is also a lot to be learnt in terms of body language, whether the PDA seems natural or a bit forced. According to a body language expert, there are certain couples who do something they call ‘performative PDA’, which is really about couples who express PDA to try and convince other people that they are a solid couple who really love each other.

Where do you fall in this conversation? What are your thoughts on PDA?

Also, if you were into PDA and your partner was not, would that hurt your feelings and would you think they have something to hide? Share your comments with Stacey and JSbu.
