Dear JR. Though my focus is shot through the lens of being a straight female, I have many clients and friends who are gay. The older man/younger man scenario is quite common in your dating world. Attraction is natural— as the same underlying reasons apply. There is a synergy that draws both partners into connection and romance. The combined force of new data and mature data creates a total perspective that is mutually beneficial. The same is true with older men and younger women, or older women and younger men. There is a natural expansion that takes place for both partners.

The older partner has the opportunity to experience life through the eyes of their younger mate; to see the world through fresh eyes and an open heart. There is an excitement in youth, in viewing a world not yet tainted with cynicism. There are dreams yet to achieve. That inspiration is contagious. That is the beauty of youth, beyond the outer packaging.

The younger partner is exposed to a form of wisdom earned through the additional years of living. There is a sense of calm when one has gone through the ups and downs of life, and met and conquered numerous challenges. The younger partner may reap a broader understanding of life from this perspective. It can be a win/win formula.
