How George Clooney and Wife Amal Avoid Marital Fights | Life&Style Feature

By Whitney Danhauer

Is it possible that George and Amal Clooney do not fight—or, any couple for that matter? My feature in Life&Style Magazine shares the pivotal role of safety in honest communication.

In a 2023 appearance on CBS Mornings, George and Amal Clooney shared that they had never argued—not once. So when George, now 64, returned to the show on April 21 to promote his Broadway debut Good Night, and Good Luck, host Gayle King couldn’t resist asking if the couple had finally had a disagreement.

“We still haven’t,” George admitted with a grin. “We’re actually trying to find something to fight about.”

News of this flooded social media with numerous comments stating that it’s impossible not to fight with your mate… at least, at some point. But what if George is telling the truth?

Journalist Whitney Danhauer writes, “The internet exploded with people insisting it just wasn’t possible for a couple who wed more than a decade ago — especially one raising 7-year old twins — not to bicker. But Susan Winter, a NYC-based relationship expert and creator of the “Love À La Carte Method,” has another take.

“Although unusual, it’s not impossible,” she tells Life & Style. “If there’s clear communication and open dialogue, that allows for differences of opinion but does not culminate in a ‘fight.’”

That’s how the Clooneys roll, according to those who know them.

“George and Amal communicate very well,” confirms an insider. “They avoid speaking out of turn or making rash comments to hurt the other person. George and Amal know each other well enough that they know when to listen and when to express their thoughts and feelings.”

An insider confirms, “George and Amal have exceptionally strong communication skills.” They don’t speak impulsively or say things they’ll later regret. Instead, they make a conscious effort to avoid hurting one another with careless words. Over time, they’ve developed a deep understanding of each other’s emotional rhythms—knowing when it’s best to simply listen, and when it’s the right moment to share their own thoughts and feelings.

Their dynamic reflects mutual respect and emotional intelligence, which allows them to navigate disagreements—or avoid them altogether—with grace. It’s not that they suppress issues, but rather that they’ve learned how to address them thoughtfully, creating a space where both feel heard, valued, and safe.

George feels his marital bliss is because he met his spouse when he was older.

“I started so late with Amal,” he told CBS Mornings. “I feel so extraordinarily lucky to have met this incredible woman. There isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t think I’m the luckiest man in the world.”

According to Winter, who hasn’t worked with the duo, he’s onto something.

“With maturity comes the ability for greater self-awareness and emotional regulation,” she says. “And George continually refers to the fact that he’s ‘lucky’ to have met Amal. His respect and admiration for her are evident. And when a partner deeply respects and admires their mate, there is far less conflict.”
