While there’s no denying that we’re absolutely thrilled for all these beautiful couples, we can’t help but notice one very puzzling commonality: their engagements basically happened overnight. Think we’re exaggerating? Let’s break it down, shall we?
Ariana and Pete made their relationship public on May 31 and were engaged by June 21. Nick and Priyanka sparked dating rumors on May 29 and two months later there were engagement reports. Justin and Hailey confirmed they were back together on June 25 and by July 9, the model had a rock on her finger. No tea, no shade, but we just want to know what’s going on! Is something aflutter in the Hollywood air? As it turns out, no! And relationship expert Susan Winter explained why.
“There’s nothing wrong with a speedy engagement. It’s normally the time frame for a speedy marriage that comes into question,” Susan Winter told Life & Style. “Taking your partner ‘off the market’ is a definitive sign of commitment. Perhaps this is a natural correction to our current dating environment of hookups, ghosting, and confused partners,” she continued.
Which, quite frankly, makes a lot of sense to us. When swiping left/right becomes the cultural dating norm, who can blame these celebs for locking down their significant others quickly? As far as why all of these engagements are happening one after another, Susan Winter credits the Millennial work ethic.
“Clearly, dating has been redefined by Millennials as has their time frame for approaching engagement,” Susan said. “I see a direct correlation between this demographic’s mindset in business and their mindset in romance. Comfortable with risk-taking and quick to pull the trigger on inspiration, Millennial engagements needn’t be the protracted process we’ve seen in past generations.” You hear that baby boomers? In your faces.
As a society, we’re quick to judge or label those who get engaged quickly as “impulsive.” Susan Winter, however, has a much more optimistic outlook on the matter. “As a relationship expert, I’m thrilled. I’ve worked with far too many clients who’ve been deeply wounded by callous and confused lovers who’ve led them on and taken them for granted. This new rash of quick engagements feels like a breath of fresh air.” We couldn’t agree more! Here’s hoping all of these couples go the distance. We’re rooting for them!
